Meet Our People

“We’re building this entire complex from scratch. It’s an opportunity to do everything right and to be good stewards of the environment.”

Welcome to Devens, our state-of-the-art biologics manufacturing facility, located in a leafy, rural corner of the Pilgrim State just 45 minutes out of Boston. This 89-acre construction site is Dan’s office, where innovative biologic compounds soon will be manufactured.

Our 400,000-square-foot Devens complex—think nine football fields—is at the forefront of science and technology, and it’s also innovatively green. “This is really forward-looking in the construction industry, and I wanted to be part of it,” Dan says. Going green has many advantages, including energy savings, reducing water use, cutting green house gas emissions and improving our overall air quality.

Sustainability is a key principle at Bristol-Myers Squibb, reflected in our mission and policies worldwide. “We are the first biologic manufacturing facility to seek the prestigious U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification,” Dan says.

“Our employees are really into the green scene,” Dan says. For example, they recently volunteered their time and repaired a fence to protect a threatened species, the Blandings turtle, from wandering across a nearby busy highway in central Massachusetts. In addition, the company has fostered partnerships with wildlife agencies in locations near our facilities.

Devens is generating buzz as a great place to work, and is expected to begin production of biologic compounds in 2011. “Coming here, you know you’re on the ground floor on something big,” Dan says.
